Autumnal Sundays and Traditional Afternoon Tea at Stoke Place

Hey Sweeties,

On a recent idyllic autumnal Sunday, my husband, my in-laws and I went for afternoon tea at Stoke Place, a 17th-century country house venue located in Buckinghamshire. I had been lucky enough to win a voucher for afternoon tea at Stoke Place in a raffle and it was the perfect way to spend an autumnal Sunday.

I nearly didn’t take my big DSLR camera with me but I am so pleased I did as everything about having afternoon tea at Stoke Place was incredibly photogenic; it was a blogger’s paradise, to be honest. We were fortunate it was such a lovely day outside as the natural light that streamed through the windows added to the English country house vibe that I couldn’t get enough of.

When the four of us arrived at Stoke Place, we were greeted warmly and led up some stairs from the reception and into a dining room. Our waiter introduced himself to us and handed us each a menu to select what Jing tea we would like to accompany our afternoon tea, I selected the chai black tea.

The traditional afternoon tea at Stoke Place consisted of a selection of finger sandwiches, followed by homemade scones, mini pastries and cakes. As I was the only vegetarian amongst the four of us, my hand-cut finger sandwiches had a different selection of fillings to my husband and in-laws. I can’t remember all the fillings but there was cucumber, something with hummus, roasted red pepper, and tomato; all very tasty.

The best part of afternoon tea (for me) is always the sweet treats; the homemade scones arrived on our table still warm and once slathered in jam and clotted cream oh my they just melted in the mouth. The bottom tier had a pumpkin flavoured cake and a lemon cake.

The top tier had the chef’s special Victoria sponge; an utterly gorgeous chocolate cake; and a light custard tart.

Once we had devoured our afternoon tea, we went for a walk as the venue boasts a wonderfully large garden with a huge pond at the back of the building. If our budget had allowed for such a venue, I would have absolutely loved to have got married at Stoke Place because it really did have the best of everything you would want for such an occasion.

Do you like afternoon tea? Where is your favourite place to go?

Until next time x
