Getting back your sass -How to get back to you after a negative experience

Hey Sweeties,

As some of you will be aware, 2018 hasn’t started so great for me… well, it depends how you look at it I guess. On 2nd January I resigned from a job without a plan due to bullying in the workplace that over the course of about two months completely crushed my confidence and turned me into an anxious and stressed wreck. So from one perspective I made a great decision to leave, but this has still ultimately led to me currently without permanent employment. However, more on that another time.

So how do you get back your sass and get back to feeling like you again following a set back? Or maybe your Mum/sister/gran/aunt or best friend needs a boost to help lift their spirits a little? Sometimes it can be as simple as a sweet scented treat like Gift Sets for Her* to bring back a smile, or you need some of these ideas –

Getting back your Sass!

Get your hair done

This has to be number one when you’re on a mission to getting back your sass, am I right? You’ve had a breakup, you’ve got a new partner, you’re feeling a bit shit, or maybe you’re feeling great and you want to feel even more fabulous… you get your hair done! Whether it’s a refreshing chop, or a pampering blow dry, the salon is where to head first!

Get a fresh mani and pedi

One of my happy places is at my local beauty salon, and one of my favourite things to do for me is to get my nails done. As I have gotten older, I definitely spend more money on services and experiences, than I do on actual things, and getting my nails done is one of those things I treat myself to on a regular basis. For 60-90 minutes, I can sit in a quiet environment, have gentle conversation with the girls at the salon, and relax for a bit… it’s definitely something I recommend.

Read articles and books about female empowerment

This might not be for everyone, but as someone that is really passionate about celebrating women in business, for me I love reading a good article or book about a successful business women (i.e. Karren Brady, Sheryl Sandberg), where they share their advice and life story. For me it reinvigorates my want to succeed and provides some ideas with how to hit my goals and what I want to achieve in life. When I read something empowering, particularly when I am feeling a bit down in the dumps and looking for ways to getting back my sass, it makes me want to get back up and crack on with life.

I have begun a Pinterest board dedicated to female leadership, follow it here.

Create a great playlist on Spotify

Music is the soundtrack of life, there is a song for everything, every emotion, every moment. I have so many playlists at the ready for whatever mood I am in, but when you need to find some ways of getting back your sass you need songs you can lose yourself to. In the words of Taylor Swift, you need to Shake It Off by turning your tunes up loud, letting your hair down, and for a few minutes, not giving a damn!

Retail Therapy

Who doesn’t love a bit of retail therapy? You have your hair done, a fresh manicure and pedi, and now you need a new outfit, and you should definitely treat yourself to that pair of shoes you have had your eye on! And maybe even some new beauty and skincare? Go on, you’re worth it!

Visit a spa

Whenever I am in dire need of some chill time, I book a time out experience at Nirvana Spa, and I suggest you do too. We’re all so busy running around like headless chickens, and constantly consuming news and browsing our social feeds… from time to time you just need to completely switch off and chill.

Get together with your favourite Gal Pals

I’ve never shied away from the fact that I don’t have many friends living nearby, and I have had to learn to be my own best friend. So for the most part when I need to feel better about myself, I have to find solutions and things to do that I can do on my own, and I really do want to encourage you all to know how (and have the confidence) to do the same. That being said, if you can surround yourselves with your closest friends then do! Whether you have one friend or ten, organise a night out, or a night in, and have fun.
