Sleek Matte Me Liquid Lipstick in Birthday Suit | Beauty Review

Hey Sweeties,

Liquid lipsticks are having such a moment right now, when I say ‘moment’ I mean year because it seems 2016 has so far been dominated by them and the trend doesn’t seem even close to disappearing any time soon. As you know I am a big fan of liquid lipsticks, my favourites being the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet collection (see my review here), and while I have struggled to find anything that beats them because they last so well, their closest competitor has got to be the Matte Me range from Sleek. Most recently I purchased and reviewed for you guys one of the new shades the brand released, Velvet Slipper (review here), but if Twitter is anything to go by, everyone goes nuts for Birthday Suit and I know this because it’s almost always sold out everywhere I go. However, I happened to find it recently in my local Boots store and as you know how much of a sucker I am for intrigue, I thought I would give it a go.

Until purchasing Birthday Suit, my go-to liquid lipstick nudes were Happy Nude Year and Nude-ist from Bourjois. However, this has now changed, Birthday Suit has kicked both of those butts off of the top spot and firmly taken their place. First of all, this is not to say I don’t still love them, I do and as they are such a lightweight formula, and quite pink toned, they are lovely for summer. But as we’re now into autumn, a slightly thicker formula and something more brown toned is more favourable and this is why Birthday Suit has made such a firm statement in my collection.

The only thing I would say that I don’t totally love about the Matte Me Liquid Lipsticks, is the application wand; because it’s so straight, getting precision application actually takes quite a lot of concentration whereas the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet product wands are slightly curved and more of a doe foot.

I think for value, the Sleek Matte Me liquid lipsticks are about £6 which is hardly a lot of money, I also find that often, Boots in particular, have deals for Sleek products and I am pretty sure I purchased Birthday Suit along with the new limited edition Goodnight Sweetheart palette (review coming soon) and the colour correcting palette (again will review for you guys soon). I am sure I have said it countless times, but honestly, if you’re looking for a high quality and affordable high street makeup brand, Sleek are you people!

So in summary, Birthday Suit is a lovely brown-toned nude that is very wearable, very pigmented and lasts really well, enabling you to comfortably eat and drink without it rubbing off too easily. If you can get your hands on it, I highly recommend!

Do you guys like liquid lipsticks, what are your favourite brands?

Until next time x
