Exploring London Bridge – Family Friendly Sightseeing

Many years ago, I trained and worked as a dental nurse with King’s College London and as part of that I rotated around three hospitals -King’s (Denmark Hill), Guy’s (London Bridge), and St Thomas’s (Lambeth). Even though I spent the majority of my time at Guy’s Hospital during my two years training, I really didn’t ever properly explore London Bridge.

With this in mind, you can imagine my excitement at being recently tasked to visit London Bridge* and seek out its gems.

Armed with a budget, my husband and a baby (his first trip into London), we headed into the city to see what we could find.

Top Tip: If you’re travelling in London with a baby/children in a stroller, make sure you note which tube stations have lift access otherwise you’ll have to navigate the stairs.

Sparkling Afternoon Tea for Two at the Tower Hotel London

Hey Sweeties,

As I mentioned in my last post (here), I said that as I have gotten older I prefer to spend my money on services and experiences, and this also applies to gifts. I live away from my family and most of my friends and so for me, I love to give and receive the gift of time and share in something as opposed to having a gift that will just take up more space (but that’s not to say I am ungrateful for the presents I receive). For Christmas I was really lucky to receive two afternoon tea vouchers, one from my friend that I still need to book, and this Sparkling Afternoon Tea for Two at the Tower Hotel London, that I am reviewing for you today.

Moving out of home: Ten lessons I have learnt in 10 years

Moving out of home for the first time is daunting as much as it is exciting. On this day, 10 years ago it was my first day at dental nurse school at Kings College, London. I was 19 years old and was experiencing living away from home for the first time, leaving my family back in Devon.

When I look back, my twenties have been a decade of transition in many areas and in a few months when I celebrate my 30th birthday, I will feel proud for having allowed myself the opportunity, however sad and often lonely it has been, to learn who I really am.

Moving out of home can be a scary time, particularly if you are moving away from your family and friends. I have spent much of my life moving around, both with my family and without them so I know exactly how difficult and nerve-wracking it can be.

Looking back there are some things I wish I had not experienced, but then again, experiencing them was character building and helped shape future decisions; so I do not live in regret.

The Blogosphere Valentine’s Tea Party at the Tropical Library, London

Hey Sweeties,

On Saturday I attended the Blogosphere Valentines Tea Party hosted by Blogosphere magazine. A few weeks ago I randomly caught the tweet announcing the event and I jumped at the opportunity to purchase a ticket (for £15 which I thought was perfectly reasonable), and secure the date in my calendar.

It was also exciting following the #BlogosphereValentines tag on Twitter leading up to the event and connecting with fellow bloggers who were going; a great tip if you’re going to events alone like I do!

The Venue

The Blogosphere Valentine’s Tea Party was held at the Tropical Library in Lumiere London (SE1), a short walk from Southwark underground station. The building looked like any other on the street, but upon entering you walk up two flights of stairs before reaching the second floor where the party was being held.

I was warmly welcomed on arrival and I was glad of a coat rail as that would’ve seriously restricted my being had I had to have my coat and scarf over my arm all afternoon.

I was glad I arrived slightly before the 1pm kick off as it enabled me to see the room before it got filled with people, and it was a really pretty and inviting space.
