Shower Gels ft. The Body Shop, Lush & Original Source – My Six Favourite

Hey Sweeties,

In this post I thought it would be fun to talk through my favourite shower gels with you. For me, I like something that smells good, and a formula that allows the product to froth up on contact with water so you get a really soapy experience in the shower.

I have tried un-scented shower gels before and I just cannot get on with them although I totally appreciate that some people both don’t like scented products, and also whose skin is too sensitive for them.

Five Things about Lush King of Skin

Hey Sweeties,

As it is for so many, Lush is one of my favourite shops on the high street, but unlike say River Island whereby you can visit a few times for nothing to really take your fancy, you’ll always come out with a bag full of things from Lush, always. This is why quite sensibly, I (try to) only go in when I need to stock up.

In my most recent Lush haul which took place a couple of months ago now, amongst some other routine favourites such as The Comforter, I picked up the King of Skin body butter bar for the first time, mostly out of intrigue because I had heard so much about it. Now having used it a few times, I thought I would keep to my word and let you know some thoughts.

Lush Haul

So I’ll be honest, when I first decided I was going to write a post about this product, it was going to be because I couldn’t quite understand the hype and I really wasn’t a fan the first time I used it. But then I found myself reaching for it again in the shower, and again, and while there are still a couple of elements I don’t like (which to be honest are going to be very personal to me), there are things that I do. Let’s start with the positives –

  1. I love how creamy the bar gets when in use. As the bar loses its crown shape, it moulds into a smooth bar which to butter up in your hands is just gorgeous.
  2. It smells amazing (a blend of avocados, bananas, oatmilk and butters)
  3. It leaves your skin beautifully soft and lightly scented once out of the shower.

And for the not so positive –

  1. I don’t like how it doesn’t feel you wash it all off, let me explain. Once you have buttered up the bar and rubbed it over your body, it leaves what I can only describe to be like a film on your skin. It doesn’t of course and to be fair it works in the same way any soap would, but I like the feeling of clean when I leave the shower and after I have used King of Skin, I always then use a shower gel to feel like I have properly washed which in my mind, defeats the objective somewhat. But as I said in point 3, once out of the shower and you’ve dried off, your skin does smell gorgeous.
  2. Overall, it just doesn’t drive me wild. This is actually a very weak point to end on and it’s not even really that negative because it’s just my personal opinion, and not everything I buy (from anywhere) needs to drive me wild with love for it. But five points rounds up better than four, and to be fair, I do only really dislike one thing. Fundamentally, I am a shower gel kinda’ gal and I think this is what King of Skin has proved.

I don’t know, maybe it will grow on me in time, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it did end up in my basket again in the future. I liken this a bit to when I tried Lush’s Happy Hippy shower gel for the first time. I got it in one of the gift boxes I think originally and because I completely wasn’t anticipating the smell, the first time it hit my nostrils I thought it smelt a bit like cigarettes on clothes. I know that sounds ridiculous but for me, that is what seemed to resonate. But then after a couple of uses I become completely addicted to it and still reach for it when I am after something that isn’t too sweet or floral but has a nice kick of scent.

What do you think guys, have any of you tired Lush’s King of Skin? What are some of your other favourite Lush products?

Until next time x

Lush Haul

Hey Sweeties,

When it comes to Lush, I think people fall into two camps -either you pop in regularly, or you resist for as long as possible until you really need to go in because your stocks have run dry. You then pop in thinking you’ll pick up maybe two things, a simple in and out session, you refuse the offer of a basket. But you get distracted, you accept the offer of a basket and before you know it you have it moderately filled and are £20 poorer. This is me.

Lush Haul

Except for one of the (four) items, I purchased three never before purchased items from Lush; one because I liked the colour, and two out of intrigue. Can you guess?

Lush Haul

Lush Haul -The Comforter

If you’re a fairly regular reader of this blog, you’ll know from a previous Lush haul that I love The Comforter; it’s the perfect combination of providing a delicious smelling scent, turns the bath water pink, and best of all provides bubbles! I also like that the bar lasts for a couple of baths as you can break a bit off each time to use.

Lush Haul -Roses all the way

Roses All The Way was too beautiful to resist and with Valentine’s Day around the corner and my wedding not too far behind, I thought it would be the ideal opportunity to introduce some fun elements around the house that fuelled the whole, love is in the air kinda’ thing. This product is a soap that turns beautifully creamy as you lather it on your body.

Lush Haul -King of skin

The second of my intrigued purchases is King of Skin. I have managed to avoid it until now but it caught my attention when in store this time, long enough for me to want to know why some people love it so much. As someone that enjoys more showers than baths, it makes sense to purchase more products that can be used in-shower and I’m looking forward to giving King of Skin a go.

Lush Haul =Yoga Bomb

Finally, sometimes you just need to take it back to basics and enjoy a classic bath bomb. I haven’t tried this one before but it was purchased solely on colour appeal.

What are your favourite products from Lush? Have any of you visited the store on Oxford Street? I’ve walked past it a few times but I am not sure I have the self control to go in yet.

My Recent Lush Haul -Bubble Bars, Bath Bombs & Face Masks

Hi, my name is Claire and I love hauls (All: hi Claire).

So yes, I’ll admit it, providing I have sufficient funds I really enjoy that time when stocks run low and the weekend is earmarked for a haul; is there anything better?

Except for the alluring shop fronts of Boots and Superdrug, Lush is quite possibly the most enticing shop on the high street for its colourful glow and bath bomb aroma wafting out onto the street. I can scarcely ever resist.

So what goodies made it into my basket?

Bath Bombs

Avobath: I love this almost purely for its fragrance; it makes my bathroom smell so fresh so this is always the first to be replaced.

The same also has to be said for Fizzbanger, I really like fresh scented products so this is a real winner and it also does something quite radical in the bath once you drop it in.

Bubble Bars

The Comforter is quite possibly my new favourite -it’s amazing! Prior to trying this one or even when I am using one of the other bath bombs, I do add into the bath a little bit of Radox with them just so that I am not literally just bathing in coloured water. Do you know what I mean? But The Comforter, wow! As you crumble it under the running tap, it turns the water pink and fills it with fluffy bubbles, like completely. I find that you only need to use half of the bar at any one time (unless of course you’re crumbling it into a bath the size of a swimming pool!) as it produces plenty of bubbles and it does something incredible with the water. It doesn’t just turn pink and smells of candy, it becomes and feels incredibly silky on the skin. So lush!

I have never tried Creamy Candy before and I bagged this one almost solely on its cuteness and you’ll agree with me right that it is cute! I’m keen to see how it performs against The Comforter.

Fresh Face Masks

I know Lush do a whole range of face masks but I just so loved using Brazened Honey last time that I just had to get it again. I don’t really have the time or patience to be doing a face mask more than once a week but on a weekend when I can run myself a hot bath, stick in a bath bomb of some kind and relax away, it makes sense to do a face mask at the same time and Lush’s Brazened Honey is my number one choice.

Brazened Honey

You’ll notice a couple of other Lush products in my basket which aren’t quite yet ready for replacing. I have Happy Hippy which when I first used it the smell surprised me a bit and I thought I wasn’t keen but then I just found myself using it time and time again and now I find it actually quite addictive. Secondly I have Snow Fairy which I have had to ration myself for the last couple of years. I know it sounds stupid but when I first purchased it I was a student so I managed to get another bottle over Christmas a couple of years ago and then owing to where I have been and circumstance since, I haven’t been able to get into Lush over Christmas to stock up. I am not even entirely sure it’s even still available hence why I have to severely ration it in case I run out before I can be sure it can be replaced. Does anyone know if it does still get stocked over Christmas?

Right, so if you’ll excuse me… I am off to run myself a bath.

GRWM Hockey Dinner Dance

Hey Sweeties,

How are we all?  Good weekend?

A problem I have today my lovelies and I am sure fellow bloggers have been in my exact predicament, you go to the effort of documenting the getting ready process to then walk out the door without capturing the finished look! Doh! *Slaps head*

On Saturday night it was the end of season hockey dinner dance and it was a cracker of a night, really thoroughly enjoyable! Aside from being surrounded by fantastic company, between courses awards were handed out and I was delighted to be called up to accept the trophy for Ladies 4’s Player of the Year! Amazing considering this is my first season back playing since secondary school and with the club. Really bloody chuffed!

So, with a night such as this, planning and preparation was essential beginning of course with a face mask…

This is my first mask from Lush, I got bored with those crappy ones from packets -you never get all of the stuff out and they don’t feel that satisfying- so when I was last in the Lush shop, as well as picking out a couple of bath bombs I ventured over to the masks and got encouraged to pick ‘Brazened Honey’ by one of the staff.

It all begins with a face mask!

It all begins with a face mask!

Exfoliating, stimulating and nourishing mask for tired skins. Fresh fruits are blended with warming Ayurvedic herbs and spices, ground almonds to polish and moisturising honey. Leaves your skin vibrant and revitalised”

I really liked it and I am definately encouraged to try more Lush masks in the future!

…Then make up!

Some of the products you’ll have seen before in an earlier post of mine but here is what I used to create my make-up look that night:

1. Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer, no.2 (medium) 2. Mac Studio Sculpt Foundation SPF 15 3. Mac Mineralize Shin Finish, Medium 4. Rimmel Bronzer, 022 Sun Bronze 5. BeautyBox Highlighter 6. Rimmel Blusher, 050 Soft Pink 7. Get Real Benefit Mascara 8. NYC eyeshadow 907 (used on brows) 9 & 10. Bourjois Color Edition 24H, 6802 (metalic silver) 6902 (metalic purple) 11. Burt’s Bees lip balm, pomegranate 12. Bourjois Lip Stick, Rouge Edition, 02 Beige Trench 13. Clarins Eau des Jardins perfume

Bourjois Color EditionThis is a closer look of the Bourjois Color Edition 24H (cream to powder texture).

They are really good and lasted all night. Lately I haven’t been wearing eye shadow as much, if at all really as my lids started to get a bit itchy with the eye shadows I used to wear from the 17 range which is a shame as I loved them but perhaps I need to find something a bit more suiting to sensitive skin? (suggestions?). Anyway, along with the lipstick these 2 items came with my Bourjois gift set that I mentioned a while back as part of taking out a subscription with Company Magazine. I am really impressed with them! I applied the silver across my lids as a base colour then I blended in the purple into my crease and corners, it looked really effective!

Bourjois Rouge Edition Initially I thought I would be wearing a darker, more reddy colour lipstick but having tried this one earlier in the day just to see how it felt, I really liked it. It lasted well and was relatively moisturising so my lips never felt dried out which some lipsticks I have found do after a while.

I was hoping to also do something a bit more exciting with my hair but in spending too long faffing about, I ran out of time. I really fancied trying to create one of those hair bows but trying to create it for the first time and in a rush was obviously never going to succeed! However, I will endeavor to still give it a go and I will post the results…

Instead I spritzed L’Oreal Txt hair spray into it which gave my hair an amazing volumising look, I love big hair and the spray really helped achieve this. Of course by the end of the night though my hair was tied up out of my face while I partied away. Man, I love a good disco!
