MAC x Caitlyn Jenner Finally Free Lipstick Review & Swatches

Hey Sweeties,

Whether I have made it obvious on here (ClaireySweetie) or not, I am someone that loves to both support and take part in initiatives, sporting events, bakes and sales of specific products etc. that raise money for important causes, whether that be big national/international campaigns, or locally with friends, family and colleagues. I am a big fan of MAC makeup, but rather than go mad in stores, I am quite selective with what I purchase, selecting products that I truly feel will be a welcome addition to my collection. Of course that doesn’t mean I don’t do the odd spontaneous buy, but you get what I mean.

Long time readers of my blog will be familiar with my two posts that I wrote last year about/involving Caitlyn Jenner, first of her announcement to transition (here), and secondly of the Vanity Fair cover that she revealed her new image (here). While we could argue all day about her privileged decent into becoming a woman, the awareness she has raised for the transgender community is huge and cannot be disputed, and her collaborating with MAC, continues the message of support.

MAC Finally Free

MAC Finally Free

“Caitlyn Jenner has fearlessly shared her transition with the world. Her new M.A.C lipstick, Finally Free, champions all ages, all races and all sexes. The full RRP less VAT will benefit the transgender community in the UK” -MAC website.

While I am a sucker for purchasing lipstick (aren’t we all!), Finally Free -a mid-toned rosey nude- is beautiful and I would argue a real asset to any collection. As a matte lip lover, the cremesheen formula makes for a welcome change and leaves lips with a gorgeous (erm,) sheen to them upon application. I have tried the lipstick with and without the additional of lip liner and while I personally prefer to wear lipstick with liner, it works just as well without.

It’s always a risk purchasing online exclusives when you haven’t seen them before, but reviews of MAC’s Finally Free lipstick put me at ease, and for those familiar with the various MAC formulas, should be comfortable with what they are purchasing. Overall, I would thoroughly recommend Finally Free and have no doubt it’ll become an every day staple nude.

What are your favourite MAC lipsticks?

MAC Smoked Purple Lipstick and Nightmoth lipliner review

If there is one thing I love more than a bold lip, it’s a strikingly bold dark lip and when I first noticed the Mac Smoked Purple Lipstick a few weeks ago, I knew it was for me.

My Makeup Collection: Lips

Hey Sweeties,

It’s time to show you all another area of my makeup collection, having already shown you my; foundations, blushers & eyes bringing us now onto, lips. Here goes…

lips Makeup collection

The collection! Note: the glosses in the top left compartment aren’t usually kept there, I’m not that messy 😉

I touched upon my makeup storage a while back now (here) so it’s probably time I did an update post soon, but for the purposes of this post, my collection of lip products are for the most part stored on top of my dressing table in organisers from TK MAXX and Muji.

All the glosses seen in the left on the top organiser are normally kept within my dressing table as I find I hardly use these ones, but they’re still useful to keep on hand for when I do. Essentially my core collection consists of lip liners, lipsticks and a couple of glosses as I will talk you through below.  View Full Post

My Makeup Collection: Eyes

Hey Sweeties,

Continuing with my posts taking you through my makeup collection having already shown you my foundations (here) & blushers (here), today I thought I would take you through eyes, specifically palettes, individual pans and crayons.

Ofra in shade, Bliss: The problem with eye palettes and individual pans is that unless the brand, colour etc. is really good, the pans can get lost in the drawer and that is kind of what has happened here with Ofra. I got this sometime early last year I think in a Love me Beauty Box (here), and although I liked it at the time, it eventually got forgotten about until I dug everything out to photograph for this post. However, while I am loving bronze and gold tones, I should try and re-incorporate this pan back into the mix.  View Full Post

MAC Velvet Teddy Lipstick Review

Hey Sweeties,

Possibly one of if not the most sought after (Mac) lipstick of 2014-present and I have managed to get my little mits on it! I have known of its existance for ages but -and I’ll be honest with you here, Sweeties- it’s only since the world went totally crazy for Velvet Teddy that my own intrigue ramped up like, massively. Like everyone else, I struggled to get hold of it and even sent my Mum off to the States to see if she could track it down to then by chance, see it was available (and still is I believe) on the Mac UK website. To say it was added swiftly into my basket is an understatement and I half expected Mac to email me later to say there had either been a mistake or that stocks had suddenly diminished.

I think laid out amongst other more vibrant colours, Velvet Teddy wouldn’t have jumped out at me or been a shade I would have thought to try however, I can totally see how people go nuts for it once they make the discovery with or without the influence of Kylie Jenner. In fact, those that were championing Velvet Teddy long before the craze I salute you!

Velvet Teddy is a very workable, everyday nudey colour. What has suprised me most though about this lipstick is how deliciously buttery and creamy it is once applied and it lasts extremely well -not of course that I would have expected anything less from a Mac product.

The lipliner that it has been paired with (Mac’s Whirl) is now possibly more elusive than Velvet Teddy but I think I have found a decent -cheaper- alternative in Kiko‘s Precision lip pencil in 300. I involved a Kiko haul/product review on here a little while ago (here) and I do genuinely think you can’t go wrong with their lipliners (or any of their products in fact). Whirl I think is more of a pink toned brown whereas Kiko‘s 300 is definitely more brown but it pairs up with Velvet Teddy beautifully providing a great base as well as a great outline of the lips to provide that much sought after shape rather than a lipstick mess. Again, Kiko liners last brilliantly but I am going off point here…

What I have learnt today guys is that if women everywhere suddenly go crazy for something, it’s probably worth listening to the hype … you might surprise yourself and be rewarded in the long run!

Until next time x
