Summer Style with Tropical & Lace | New ASOS Shirt

Hey Sweeties,

A couple of weeks ago, I posted about my love for floral patterned trousers (here) as over the summer months I really enjoy wearing a statement patterned piece of clothing. This tropical print blouse with lace detailing from ASOS, is quite possibly my favourite purchase of the year so far, I am just in love with it!

When I got the invite through for the recent Bloggers Hangout event I attended (here), the dress code said ‘Summer Garden Chic‘ and it wasn’t immediately obvious what I had in my wardrobe that could fulfil the brief. It was convenient thus that my good pal ASOS were having a sale and I took to the site in pursuit of some new summer pieces.

It’s not immediately obvious from the photographs, but the blouse is about 3/4 length and therefore sits just above my hips, it also buttons down the front. I personally prefer tops to come down lower on me, so I’ve worn a long vest top underneath this blouse to overcome this. I also usually prefer clothing to be more fitted however, the wide (square) fit works really well and I actually much prefer it this way, particularly as the Bloggers Hangout event venue turned out to be so blimmin’ hot, I really appreciated the looser fit.

In the same way as I style other patterned pieces, I really like how I’ve paired this blouse with a black mini skirt and light brown coloured ankle boots. In an ideal world I would’ve worn sandals on the day but as we all know, sandals are not ideal footwear on days a lot of walking (around London) is taking place, but hopefully you can still vision the look with alternative footwear. Owing to the wide sleeves, I’m not sure how well this shirt would sit underneath a jumper but it is something I will try so I can hopefully take this blouse into autumn; I think the collar will lend itself well to being layered with something.

Do you guys like wearing pattern? What are your summer style staples?

Summer Vibes | Relaxed Weekend Outfit with Floral Printed Trousers

Hey Sweeties,

So asides from desperately wanting (and needing) a proper holiday -which FYI I have to wait until next year for- I also really really want to go to a festival this year; not necessarily for the whole three days or whatever, but a day outside (in the sun), with some cider, a floral crown and some good music -yes!

Unfortunately, I haven’t got any festivals planned this summer either owing mostly to already being booked up on those weekends… wow, what a positive post this is so far, ha!

Anyway.

Printed Trousers

One of the things I love about summer is the change in my wardrobe; while I still need to keep a good reasonably thick hoody to hand, for the most part outfits become simpler, lighter and colour finally makes an appearance. While I love being able to layer during the colder months, pieces now need to be able to work on their own with only some light accessories. For me, I adore pairing together a statement, patterned piece, with block colour and for at least the last two summers, I have been obsessed with printed trousers.

As a woman nearing (frighteningly) to her thirties, there comes a time when you have to accept that short shorts are no longer suitable summer/festival attire. And to be totally honest with you, thank goodness! For me, summer style is all about maxi dresses & skirts, kimonos and the like, I really think flowing fabrics provide the opportunity to cover up but still retain that summer vibe in a mature way. The above outfit is a classic example of how I like to dress on the weekend during the summer months… or any time the sun is out and hot because let’s be honest, that has happened in October before and last autumn overall was still quite balmy leading up to Christmas!… but you know what I mean.

Summer Style Ideas for the Work Place / New Look Haul

Summer style ideas for work outfits is something a lot of us search for. In winter, we tackle the cold weather by layering and for fashion bunnies, this is actually a really fun and easy way to create new looks.

In summer, we wear less which means the pieces we choose need to work harder on their own, and although for the most part summer attire looks effortless, it is often far from it but where accessories really come into play.

My new workplace operates a business-casual rule Monday – Thursday and on Fridays, it’s casual. Much like my previous workplace (where it was actually far more corporate), I loved finding looks that injected a bit of colour and fun into an outfit and this hasn’t changed. Also, since lopping my long locks off (here), I have been loving my new look and I have been eagerly anticipating the summer to work a new, fresher style.

So with that all in mind, here is how I might be wearing the selection of new pieces I bought recently.

Summer style outfit #1

A black t-shirt is a black t-shirt but it is such a wardrobe staple and can pretty much be worn with anything. That being said, there is such a thing as too much black & in the summer this should be avoided where possible. This outfit would be perfect for casual Friday.
