My Makeup Collection: Highlighters

Hey Sweeties,

I initially wasn’t going to mention my small collection of highlighters in my series of posts focussed on the different areas of my makeup collection (foundations, eyes, lips & blushers), partly because out of everything, it’s the product I own the least of and therefore not much to show you. That being said, unlike say blushers, I think there isn’t a need to own a lot of highlighters because while they do exist in different tones, a couple of good highlighters is all you really need to get you by.

In recent months, the highlighter as a product has become such a staple in my daily makeup routine, I have really learned to appreciate it. Application is definitely a skill and it’s important to understand where and how it should be applied to get the most from it and not just look as though you have a random golden streak down your face. I am no way skilled therefore if you are looking for a master, I would whole heartedly recommend watching IntheFrow in her makeup tutorials.

So, without further ado, here is my collection of highlighters:

Topshop Highlighter Sunbeam

Topshop in Sunbeam – This is probably my most reached for highlighter and I think was actually the first in my collection. While it is maybe more yellow than I would ideally want, the pigmentation is excellent and leaves a lovely shimmery golden glow where applied.

Makeup Revolution Highlight palette

Makeup Revolution – Highlighter Palette – This is a fantastic highlight palette, it’s incredibly affordable and the pigmentation of the products is fantastic, to be honest you’d be fine if this was all you owned. Of the three, I mostly use either the one on the left or in the middle but I think this palette would suit most if not all skin tones. Definitely one to get hold of if you can.

The Manizer Sisters

The Manizer Sisters/Mary-Lou Manizer– I was delighted to pick this up in Las Vegas last year (see my American Haul post) and I can totally understand why everyone loves this highlighter so much. The reason why I don’t use it every day is more over accessibility in my drawer as it sort of gets lost around other products (because this is a palette rather than a single pan), whereas my Topshop highlighter is much easier to grab in a hurry. Again, the pigmentation is great and it’s the perfect tone to accentuate key facial features. Of the three in my collection it’s the pricier product but as I said earlier, you don’t need tons of highlighters so if you wanted a budget friendly and one slightly more expensive (but still perfectly affordable), The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer would be a good shout.

What are your favourite highlighters?

Until next time x

A Huge American Beauty Haul

Hey Sweeties,

So, I have no doubt that for those that were aware of my recent trip to the States, you want to know what beauty bits I have brought back? Well, wait no more, here is my American beauty haul!

A couple of weeks ago you’ll remember I posted a beauty wish list (here) and I have to be honest, I got only one of the items on that list. For the most part, it’s because the one opportunity I got to go beauty shopping (despite the hundreds of Ulta’s and Target’s we drove past), and I visited just one Sephora store and two Walgreens, (the second of which came up trumps for finds). All three stores were in Las Vegas.

I have never been in a Sephora before and I was honestly like a kid in a candy shop. However, while my mind went crazy, I did have my list with me so that I wasn’t running around on a beauty shop high completely untethered but of course additional items did go into my basket.

Kat Von D setting spray

I have been after a setting spray, particularly for my wedding next year, and Urban Decay were probably top of the list based on reviews I have previously read. However, I had a chance to try out a few in store and the Lock’n Load Makeup Setting Mist by Kat Von D, for me, was the best. It was incredibly light, very refreshing and set quickly. Sold!

Keeping with Kat Von D, I deliberately hunted out her Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks and I have come back with two -Bachelorette and Vampira.
