The Colour Yellow and Five Other Things I Love about Summer

Hey Sweeties,

Out of all the times in the year, summer is my favourite. Spring gets me excited that things are coming to life again after a long winter of hibernation, but summer for me is where it is at. Autumn is of course beautiful for it’s rich earthy colours, but for me it’s a sign things are beginning to shut down and I can’t understand why people wish away this vibrant time of year for colder, darker and often wetter, seasons instead. Summer is about living, not shutting yourself away and when those pops of yellow start appearing around us in the countryside, across rapeseed fields and in our wardrobes, it makes me so excited for the months ahead.

Six Things I Love about Summer

1. Longer days

This is the thing I look forward to most about summer, the clocks going forward and the hours of the day getting longer. I drive to work in daylight, I come home in daylight, and I still have hours to utilise in the evening; whereas in the winter I’m in my pyjamas and on the sofa shortly after 6pm until I go to bed. I love being able to have the windows open, go for evening walks, breathe fresh air for longer, and take blog photos during the week as well as the weekends (you get me!!).

2. Scents

In the summer, everything gets softer and lighter. While fashion has to work a little bit harder as pieces work alone rather than layered together, beauty and scent can tone down. I love really fresh scents at this time of year and as I have mentioned before, I always try to pick up Perfume gift sets* when I see them, particularly when it’s an opportunity to try something new.

3. Fruits

I wrote a post back in 2015 about getting that summer glow, and one of the things I mentioned was utilising nature’s free fruit by picking the blackberries that fill up the hedgerows. I also love the influx of strawberries into the supermarkets; basically during the summer months I enjoy fresh fruit so much more than I do at other times of the year. Anyone else?

4. Nature

I am a big outdoors person, I love being outdoors in the fresh air and I do this either by going on walks, or by being out in my garden. Spring is amazing for watching things come up out of the ground, shoots on trees turn green and the like. But summer, summer is when everything really grows and there’s so much satisfaction in watching the things you plant bloom under your care, and pops of yellow, red, pink and other colours appear around you in the home, and your local area.

5. Makeup-free Days

Of course I have these in the colder months, but our faces are so wrapped up in scarves and we barely go out that no one cares to notice. In the summer however, our skin catches some colour, it benefits from the fresh air and thus for the most part, a few of us can get away with going (mostly) makeup free with just a pair of sunnies on the weekends.

6. The Colour Yellow

Yellow is my happy colour, there’s something about it that whenever I see it, my mood improves. For me, summer is yellow; it’s the sun, it’s the flowers, it’s butterflies…

What are your favourite things about summer?

Until next time x
