Nature’s Free Fruit – Four Reasons Why I Love Blackberries

Hey Sweeties,

We have been so fortunate this year in the UK, particularly in the south-east (I can’t speak for everywhere else) that we have enjoyed a super early, super bumper crop of blackberries. As spring turns into summer, I start noticing the hedges of bramble bushes begin to flower and then form into reddy-pink fruit; as soon as the blackberries ripen you can be sure I’m clearing space in my freezer, grabbing tubs and heading on out to strip all the local bushes. What’s even better this year, is that I managed to grow my own blackberry bush in my garden and train it up the back fence, and it has been such a pleasure watching blackberries form and ripen, before picking.

The Colour Yellow and Five Other Things I Love about Summer

Hey Sweeties,

Out of all the times in the year, summer is my favourite. Spring gets me excited that things are coming to life again after a long winter of hibernation, but summer for me is where it is at. Autumn is of course beautiful for it’s rich earthy colours, but for me it’s a sign things are beginning to shut down and I can’t understand why people wish away this vibrant time of year for colder, darker and often wetter, seasons instead. Summer is about living, not shutting yourself away and when those pops of yellow start appearing around us in the countryside, across rapeseed fields and in our wardrobes, it makes me so excited for the months ahead.

My Favourite Easy Summer Hairstyles that you can try too!

Hey Sweeties,

I have no doubt I am not alone here in saying that I regularly find myself in hair ruts; for years I had super long hair that my mum French plaited every.single.day for school until I think year 10 when I got it all lopped off. Since then the length has wavered but I do now generally keep it shoulder length, favouring the long bob, which not only suits me, but also is appropriate to my lifestyle and age. I often miss having long hair but as soon as I find myself throwing it up daily in a messy bun, I know it is time for another chop because there is no point having lovely long hair if it’s not going to be properly appreciated.

In recent years, I have also got a lot better at hair care, ensuring I am not only using shampoo and conditioner (which I have never not done to be honest), but incorporating oils, heat protection and masks when necessary. This just ensures that my hair is well cared for and always looking its best. As far as shampoo goes, I think there are many good quality, affordable ones on the high street, but from time to time I like to use a good quality conditioner to make my hair super silky soft; I have a few on my list that I would like to try such as this L’Occitane conditioner.

Clean hair makes for a happy Claire!

My Four Seasons of 2016 Highlights & Acceptance of Change

Hey Sweeties,

2016 has been a funny old year hasn’t it? We’ve lost a lot of people, some I’ve been truly sad about (Alan Rickman, Caroline Aherne, Victoria Wood, Carrie Fisher…); we voted to leave the EU which, while a lot of people are very angry about it, I’m a glass half full kinda’ gal and we have to look forward otherwise we just stay angry and stew over something that we simply can’t predict what will happen. Trump got elected to be the President of the United States and while Hilary Clinton definitely wasn’t a much better option (don’t kid yourselves just because she would have been the first female President), we have that to watch unfold over the next 12 months. In a recent Twitter chat, we were asked to describe 2016 in one word and for me, that word was ‘change’.

Also for me, the year always begins in spring because it’s my favourite time of year -we’re over winter and nature comes back to life bringing change and new things. The evenings get lighter, the weather warmer and we just feel motivated to do things.

What’s in my Handbag Summer Essentials | August Blogs

Hey Sweeties,

If you saw my recent haul post earlier this week (here), you’ll have seen that I have purchased a new handbag from Mango, which I am just in love with. I have only done a what’s in my handbag type post once before (here) which was ages ago now, so I figured this would be an excellent opportunity to take a closer look at my new purchase, and some of the essential things I carry around with me, particularly over the summer.  Here goes –
