Summer Style with Tropical & Lace | New ASOS Shirt

Hey Sweeties,

A couple of weeks ago, I posted about my love for floral patterned trousers (here) as over the summer months I really enjoy wearing a statement patterned piece of clothing. This tropical print blouse with lace detailing from ASOS, is quite possibly my favourite purchase of the year so far, I am just in love with it!

When I got the invite through for the recent Bloggers Hangout event I attended (here), the dress code said ‘Summer Garden Chic‘ and it wasn’t immediately obvious what I had in my wardrobe that could fulfil the brief. It was convenient thus that my good pal ASOS were having a sale and I took to the site in pursuit of some new summer pieces.

It’s not immediately obvious from the photographs, but the blouse is about 3/4 length and therefore sits just above my hips, it also buttons down the front. I personally prefer tops to come down lower on me, so I’ve worn a long vest top underneath this blouse to overcome this. I also usually prefer clothing to be more fitted however, the wide (square) fit works really well and I actually much prefer it this way, particularly as the Bloggers Hangout event venue turned out to be so blimmin’ hot, I really appreciated the looser fit.

Tropical Shirt: Girls on Film at ASOS | Skirt: New Look | Boots: New Look

In the same way as I style other patterned pieces, I really like how I’ve paired this blouse with a black mini skirt and light brown coloured ankle boots. In an ideal world I would’ve worn sandals on the day but as we all know, sandals are not ideal footwear on days a lot of walking (around London) is taking place, but hopefully you can still vision the look with alternative footwear. Owing to the wide sleeves, I’m not sure how well this shirt would sit underneath a jumper but it is something I will try so I can hopefully take this blouse into autumn; I think the collar will lend itself well to being layered with something.

Do you guys like wearing pattern? What are your summer style staples?

Summer Vibes | Relaxed Weekend Outfit with Floral Printed Trousers

Hey Sweeties,

So asides from desperately wanting (and needing) a proper holiday -which FYI I have to wait until next year for- I also really really want to go to a festival this year; not necessarily for the whole three days or whatever, but a day outside (in the sun), with some cider, a floral crown and some good music -yes!

Unfortunately, I haven’t got any festivals planned this summer either owing mostly to already being booked up on those weekends… wow, what a positive post this is so far, ha!

Anyway.

Printed Trousers

One of the things I love about summer is the change in my wardrobe; while I still need to keep a good reasonably thick hoody to hand, for the most part outfits become simpler, lighter and colour finally makes an appearance. While I love being able to layer during the colder months, pieces now need to be able to work on their own with only some light accessories. For me, I adore pairing together a statement, patterned piece, with block colour and for at least the last two summers, I have been obsessed with printed trousers.

As a woman nearing (frighteningly) to her thirties, there comes a time when you have to accept that short shorts are no longer suitable summer/festival attire. And to be totally honest with you, thank goodness! For me, summer style is all about maxi dresses & skirts, kimonos and the like, I really think flowing fabrics provide the opportunity to cover up but still retain that summer vibe in a mature way. The above outfit is a classic example of how I like to dress on the weekend during the summer months… or any time the sun is out and hot because let’s be honest, that has happened in October before and last autumn overall was still quite balmy leading up to Christmas!… but you know what I mean.

What are your summer staples?

GlassesShop Review | Online Retailer for Cheap Quality Glasses

Hey Sweeties,

Do you like my new glasses*? These particular glasses frames are the Salisbury Oval (Tortoise) from the GlassesShop.com and I just love them!

GlassesShop

GlassesShop

GlassesShop

GlassesShop is an American owned and operated online retailer of cheap glasses, delivering high quality eyeglasses at low, affordable prices to customers around the world.

While I admit that I don’t currently need glasses (although a visit to the opticians is definitely long overdue!), I have worn glasses briefly in the past and I can totally relate to how important it is to finding a decent pair of frames that both look good, and are of decent enough quality to cope with daily life. Nowadays, and certainly at my age, style is everything and plays a very important role in how I am perceived by others, as well as how I perceive myself. While I want to look professional, as you guys know from some of my previous workwear style posts (like this one here), I also like to inject a bit of fun and edge into my look as well. This is why I chose this pair of tortoiseshell patterned eyeglasses because while the tortoiseshell is quite subtle, it still elevates them above a pair of standard black frames.

The frame shape is modern and flattering (although maybe a touch too large for my face), comfortable to wear and I really like the overall quality; I would be confident that these could cope with being taken on and off throughout the day, chewed (because we all do it whether it be pens, earphone wires, or the temples of spectacles), and the style not go out of fashion. Overall, a big thumbs up from me!

What do you guys think? If you would like to treat yourselves to a pair of new eyeglasses or prescription sunglasses, you can get 50% off with this code: GSHOT50 (sale frames not included), and I would definitely recommend you check out the site.

My Winter Style and the staple pieces I wear throughout the season

Even though we are technically now entering spring, at the moment it’s still certainly cold enough to keep us from reorganising our wardrobes any time soon. With this in mind, I thought I would talk you through my winter style that I have rocked pretty consistently, throughout the season so far.

One of my favourite things to do at the weekend, is layer up and take a walk across to Windsor for a coffee and a mooch, before heading back home again. Call it boring, but so often it’s the simple things in life that provide the most fulfillment.

I love this bag, it was a recent find at Topshop for the total bargain price of £8!

Winter style: Black coat

My Episode coat has been my winter staple and I purchased it at the beginning of the season last year as a bit of an investment piece; I have no doubt it’ll see me through many winters to come.

It has a fairly masculine appearance as it’s quite broad in the shoulders and has wide lapels, it also has just one buckle to secure it together but to be honest it really suits being left open. You really can’t go wrong with a formal black coat.

Layering

During colder months layers are absolutely the way forward and for me, are one of the best things about this time of year. The burgundy wool cardigan and cotton t-shirt are both from PacSun which I visited in LA back in October with Trek America.

The t-shirt is from the new Kendal & Kylie (Jenner) range and although you can’t see it here, the side panels are cut out so it falls really nicely over other clothing, but more so over your hips which I think is really flattering. PacSun is one of my favourite American stores, I would definitely recommend you try and locate one if you’re ever on that side of the Atlantic in the future.

My Winter Style

Despite my vast collection of scarves, this one from River Island has barely left my neck all winter; it goes with everything and I love how an animal print can add interest to an otherwise plain or simple outfit.

All that’s left is a deep berry lip and you’re all set to go -the one pictured is MAC’s Smoked Purple and has quickly become my favourite.

What staples have been your winter style?

My New LYDC Cross Body Bag

Hey Sweeties,

I have something different for you today for a Sunday instead of my normal ‘Sunday Chat’ posts, today I wanted to quickly show you my new LYDC handbag that I –amongst a selection of other lucky followers- were lucky enough to win in December through a Twitter competition. I don’t know how many different styles of LYDC handbags were available to win but the one I got sent was the sequined cross body evening bag and I Love it!

LYDC Handbag

If I am honest, this wouldn’t be the sort of bag I would choose myself as I am not usually a lover of sequin detailing. That being said, I think it’s nice to be given things that you would not usually pick out yourself as it demands you work with something new and mixes up your style a little. While the sequins might not be my favourite, the overall style of the bag is and in recent times I have tried to use smaller, more simplistic bags in an effort to not carry around with me so much unnecessary excess. Even though this bag has been designed for evening use, I actually think –with the right outfit- it could easily be fashioned during the day for example, on a shopping trip.

LYDC Handbag

LYDC Handbag

LYDC Handbag

When opened, the bag is perfectly big enough to fit the essentials (for day use) –purse, foldable cotton tote bag, phone, small compact mirror, keys & maybe a couple of items of makeup if you should so desire/need. At the back (of the inside) is a zipped compartment but it doesn’t expand much to allow for anything beyond maybe a credit card or two to hold. There are also two small pouches on the inside at the front which again, don’t expand a lot but we need to remember this handbag has been designed for evening use and not for the day. The inside compartment closes with a zip which is a big tick for me on the security front, particularly when it’s otherwise just a press stud close on the underside of the flap.

LYDC Handbag

Overall, I am totally delighted with my new LYDC bag and I will definitely be keeping an eye on their other collections which I urge you guys to do too!

Until next time x
