Blogmas day 20. Christmas in London, can you tell me something that is more festive?
We don’t always manage it every year, but when we can my husband and I love to take a day out together during December and visit London to look at the Christmas lights and window displays. This is an account of our day in 2016:
Christmas in London: 2016
Taking the tube to Lancaster Gate from Paddington station, we got off and walked along the edge of Hyde Park towards Marble Arch and Oxford Circus; in the distance we could see Winter Wonderland.
Christmas in London: it’s so important to always be looking around you and up in case you miss the little details of the city. I particularly love spotting dressed up doorways of houses and hotels.
The best time to see the Christmas lights of course is after dark but we didn’t want to be out too late so we headed into the city early afternoon, just as it was beginning to get dusky. The lights on Oxford Street have generally remained the same for the last couple of years but they are still so pretty and appealing to look at, even in daylight.
Window displays
Along with the Christmas lights, Christmas in London wouldn’t be complete without seeing all the Christmas window displays, such as Selfridges, John Lewis and Liberty of London.
This year, while the window displays in Selfridges were really pretty, surprisingly the window displays in John Lewis were the stand out winners for me; I loved how they incorporated the characters of the Christmas advert into various scenes.
Heading down Regent Street, we briefly diverted to take a look at Liberty of London who this year had windows celebrating the Royal Ballet. I couldn’t resist walking past and not taking photos of their famous flower display.
As we made our way through Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus, we ventured across to Covent Garden to see the huge Christmas tree that takes center stage every year. I also loved the mistletoe lights that hung above the crowds.
After a short stop for a late lunch in the Maple Leaf pub (which is also sort of becoming tradition for us), darkness quickly descended onto London and it was time to make our way back towards the tube, and home.
What’s your favourite thing to do at Christmas?
Until tomorrow x
I would love to be in London around Christmas time – everything just looks so pretty! Plus I’d love to go to Winter Wonderland at least once…maybe next year! Great post 🙂

Thank you! Christmas is London is lovely! I’ve been to Winter Wonderland a couple of times but it gets a bit chaotic for me as you can imagine it gets so busy. Definitely try and get to London next year though -something to look forward to 🙂
