#LoveStartswithMum Event with MoonPig | Mother’s Day

On Sunday 3rd March (2019) accompanied by my beautiful mum (the first time she’s been able to come with me to a blogger event), we traveled into London and to MoonPig HQ* for an afternoon of creative fun and afternoon tea refreshments.

As trendy London offices go, it would be fair to say that Moonpig HQ is up there with one of the coolest I have visited, my mum was certainly impressed. But on a rather gloomy Sunday, we were warmly welcomed in from the cold and made our way downstairs to the event.

Cocktail in hand, the event opened with a short presentation about Moonpig and their Mother’s Day campaign, with a big emphasis on their offering being more than just greeting cards. Prior to the event, I was loosely aware that Moonpig offered flowers and gifts in addition to their cards, but I have to be honest, I would never have thought to order flowers from them, instead choosing suppliers I ignorantly considered to have more floristry experience. Anyway, more on flowers later.

We were split into three groups and informed that during the course of the afternoon, we would rotate around three activities –card making, flower arranging and a cocktail class– with afternoon tea served after we had completed the first activity.

My group began with card making, which involved a photo booth with props and then uploading our photos to Moonpig.com and designing a Mother’s Day card using the site’s custom features.

Afternoon Tea

I really do love afternoon tea, like, A LOT! I can never pile enough clotted cream onto my scones (which for the record, I apply after jam) and I was delighted to see a big bowl of it on the table, next to a selection of sandwiches and sweet treats. My mum lives all the way down in Devon (about 3 hours from me) so even though we talk on the phone, we don’t see each other often so I was really grateful that the #Lovestartswithmum event allowed for some time where we could just relax and chat.

Flower arranging

I love flowers, there’s something so simple about the pleasure a bunch of flowers can bring to people and your home, and equally in your garden also. I’m definitely at that age whereby I would rather gift and receive flowers than something else that will ultimately just clog up my house. It’s also a really easy way to show love to others, not just on special occasions.

Prior to this event with Moonpig, I would never have thought to purchase flowers from them. However, one of the planned activities was flower arranging and we got to learn about this aspect of the business. For me, it was how serious Moonpig take it, the department is run by trained florists who source the flowers from as far away as Africa, and every little detail is considered about ensuring customers receive the best product possible.

Today, we were talked through how to prepare a bunch a flowers upon delivery to ensure you get the most out of them, from the display, care, and longevity. This includes, using the flower food that the bunches come with, removing any excess leaves that will be below the water line, and cutting the stems at an angle to ensure the flowers survive as long as possible.

Check out the range of flowers available via Moonpig here.

The lilies opened after a few days and almost two weeks on the bunch is still in bloom!

Cocktail Class with Mr Flavour

Regular readers might remember I encountered these guys at a previous blogger event (here) so I was excited to meet them again and see what delicious beverage they had in store for us that we could take turns in crafting for ourselves. Today was a raspberry iced tea, or a non-alcoholic fruity cocktail.

Overall, the event was really well organised and delivered by Moonpig and the team at Search Laboratory and it was lovely to finally have had an opportunity to give my mum some insight into some of the cool things blogging provides.

Not ordered your Mother’s Day card, flowers and/or gift(s) yet? There’s still time! Mother’s Day is on Sunday 31st March.

Until next time x
