My brain has too many tabs open: How I stay organised at home and work

My brain has too many tabs open is not something I have specifically suffered with since becoming a mum, my brain has often got a lot going on inside.

My tips to staying organised:

Weekly planner –

I have a customised planner I purchased online that hangs in my kitchen that I use to meal plan and note down any activities and/or useful information for each member of the family on a week by week basis.

For example, I have my son’s nursery days listed, what days I am in the office and at home, (and the same for my husband). There’s also space to list items we need on the next food shop, and a space for upcoming birthdays.

I can imagine that once our family has expanded further and we’re involved in 101 things, this planner will become central to family life functioning successfully.

Calendar app on my iPhone –

I used to insist on a written diary (RIP Filo Fax) to manage social engagements and things but now I have converted to the dark side. Once I swapped my handbag for a baby bag, my diary and I got separated so the calendar app on my i-Phone became my go-to.

The calendar app just makes on-the-go planning a lot easier as anytime someone suggests a catch up I can respond instantly and block out my diary. I still have a wall calendar of course which is still useful for that instant month view.

To-do lists –

I have never not written to-do lists and I now have several on the go at once. I have my weekly task list for work; a list for things at home I need to organise; and I have one for this blog amongst others that are more on an ad-hoc basis.

Either way, if I need to remember something I write it down. Until somebody can recreate a satisfying tick for online lists I’ll still remain true to this method of staying organised.

Personalised notebooks

Speaking of writing things down, I was kindly sent this A5 personalised notebook from Old English Company*, a UK based stationery and giftware brand who create beautifully illustrated and hand-lettered products. When I saw this notebook, with the quote on the front, I knew it was perfect for me!

In addition to the blush pink colour I have, this personalised foil notebook also comes in black, white and grey, and a variety of motivational quotes. I love the gold lettering on the front of the notebook, even better that the notebook is personalised by having my name on the front.

Inside, the 100gsm lined paper is perfect for writing down tasks and ideas.

Even if I am not writing down task lists, I have always got a notebook on the go that I use for everything. As a content creator and writer, I often have ideas pop into my head and if I am having a stressful time of things, writing down my thoughts helps me address them more effectively and identify solutions.
