Babymoon to Spain (Mijas, Fuengirola & Seville)

The secret is out! Followers of my Instagram and anyone connected to my personal Facebook account found out at the end of March that I had been concealing my pregnancy from the internet, and I am now the proud mamma of a gorgeous baby boy!

With this being my first baby, and my general discomfort about people declaring pregnancies and posting photos of their children online (read about that in more detail here), I just didn’t want people other than immediate family and close friends knowing we were expecting. Sorry, but I hope you all understand.

This also explains my recent silence on here because despite all the sleeping babies do, being able to get anything productive done is near impossible… so please continue to bear with me.

Babymoon to Mijas, Spain

At the end of January my husband and I had a week’s holiday to Spain that we had booked before I knew I was pregnant, so it turned into a well timed babymoon before the little one arrived. We stayed at the Los Amigos Beach Club in Mijas, a town west of Malaga on the coast.

I’ll be honest, while I was looking forward to the break I was 32 weeks pregnant and understandably nervous about being away, particularly flying, but fortunately Spain isn’t far from the UK and as it happened, travel there and back was absolutely fine (but please do seek advice from your midwife and/or doctor if you are planning a similar trip).

Visiting Fuengirola

On Wednesday’s the local town of Fuengirola hosts its huge market selling pretty much everything you could want and/or think of.

We, along with other guests, joined one of the resort staff on a visit to Fuengirola and before we were let loose in the market, she took us to her favourite spot for Churros and hot chocolate.

I couldn’t resist taking a bag of those huge strawberries back to the resort!

A day trip to Seville

Even though we planned for a really super simple babymoon, deciding to spend our time at the resort and in the local town of Fuengirola, I can’t go to a new place and not take the opportunity to explore more further afield. I had never been to Spain before and fortunately through the resort a number of excursions were offered and we both really fancied a day trip to Seville.

It took a couple of hours coach travel to get to Seville from Mijas, not helped by the picking up of people from nearby hotels and resorts. On arrival into Seville, we stopped for a short while at Plaza de Espana before heading into the city for some further sightseeing.

Ian and I aren’t really fans of joining guided tours, so we opted to explore Seville by ourselves. We also had to factor in that I wasn’t quite as fit as I normally am and walking a long way, and in heat, was not going to be achievable.

Without doubt the main tourist attraction in Seville is the cathedral of Saint Mary of the See, declared a World Heritage Site in 1987. Indeed its presence dominates the city, but unfortunately its many steps to the top to access the best views of the city are not suitable for heavily pregnant women, so I just had to admire its splendor from the outside.

I absolutely loved Seville, it is easily one of the most beautiful places I have visited; the city is full of amazing architecture and I couldn’t get over the number of orange trees. I would definitely hope to visit again in the future (sans expecting).

Overall, the small exposure I had to Spain really gave me a thirst to explore more of the country in the future as a family. Also as a babymoon destination, it was perfect and I would recommend any expecting parents to do the same and value your time as a couple before you become three or more.

Until next time x
