Four Things I Loved About Cancun, Mexico

Hey Sweeties,

In July I had a family holiday to Cancun, Mexico and I thought I would share the four things I loved about my trip.

Four Things I Loved About Cancun, Mexico

Cancun

The Hard Rock Hotel

Our primary reason for our holiday to Cancun was for my brother-in-law’s wedding and so the choosing of our hotel for the week was theirs. Fortunately for them, the Hard Rock Hotel was a fantastic all inclusive resort; the place was clean, the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, it’s beachfront location was perfect, and its five restaurants and numerous bars (not to mention every room had its own free-to-use mini bar), ensured we were well fed and watered throughout our holiday.

Chichen Itza

When I visit a country I like to actually see some of the country if you know what I mean? Even though we had everything we could possibly need at the hotel, I desperately wanted to do a couple of day trips to visit some historic sites and the first on my list was Chichen Itza. We booked the trip through the hotel’s Vacation Planners service and it was going to be a full day’s trip, setting off early and coming back late with lunch provided.

Our tour guide was fantastic and walked us around the site informing us of the history before we had an hour’s free time before needing to get back onto the bus. I am still to this day mind-blown about the place and how it was built and how it maps to the stars and oh my word, just mind blowing.

Before arriving at Chichen Itza, we stopped for a short while at a local Mayan village where we could browse handmade gifts and have some lunch.

I knew it was going to be hot but my word was it HOT! If you’re planning a trip yourself there make sure you take plenty of bottled water, comfortable shoes, and a hat or umbrella because you will need it.

Tulum

I didn’t think I was going to be lucky enough to squeeze in an extra excursion but I did and managed a visit to Tulum. As it was an express trip, we left early in the day, had no more than 1.5-2 hours there, and headed back to the hotel for mid-afternoon. This excursion didn’t include a lunch stop but we managed to grab a Subway before returning. Again, our tour guide was really lovely and knowledgeable and after giving us a brief overview of the history, we had an hour to explore on our own and this to be honest was absolutely fine.

Coco Bongo

Coco Bongo was a show and disco club, a short bus/taxi journey from the hotel, a colleague ahead of my holiday to Cancun highly recommended I experience and the place was honestly NUTS! We purchased VIP tickets (again via Vacation Planners) so that we could sit upstairs and enjoy unlimited drinks, and this was definitely a good decision as not only did we get a great view of the performers, but I think I would have found being at ground level a bit overwhelming. I honestly can’t describe Coco Bongo in a way that would do it justice so I would suggest you watch the video on their homepage to get a better idea.

Summary

Overall, we stayed in Cancun a week and to be honest, if we could have been there an extra couple of days that would have rounded the holiday off really well. Owing to the trips and the wedding day itself, I would have liked some extra time by the pool or the beach chilling out some more.

Have you ever visited Cancun or anywhere else in Mexico?

Until next time x
