I am delighted to share with you the new 2020 flavour range of marzipan chocolates from Niederegger*.
Niederegger are a family company of master confectioners in the seventh and eighth generation, producing high quality marzipan.
Following on from the Niederegger marzipan Christmas hamper I reviewed previously, as a marzipan fan I have looked forward to sampling this new collection of flavours.
Hazelnut toffee
Niederegger’s loaf of the year for 2020, hazelnut toffee marzipan with dark chocolate.
This blend of flavours works really nicely together and I really enjoyed the nutty undertones with the subtle hints of toffee.
Banana loaf
Cocoa marzipan with banana wrapped in crunchy dark chocolate.
The banana flavour is quite subtle amongst the marzipan, and I like the individually wrapped chocolates.
Rum Grapes
Rum, marzipan and grapes covered in crunchy chocolate and almond chips.
I don’t mind a good rum (and Coke or lemonade) from time to time but I have mixed feelings about rum flavourings in confectionery. I am not 100 percent sure rum and marzipan is a good combination, and even in a small bite the rum here is quite powerful.
It’s not unpleasant but it wasn’t my favourite of the selection, but rum lovers could really enjoy this.
Black and white chocolate
Cocoa marzipan with white and dark chocolate.
This combination of marzipan with white and dark chocolate flavourings is really pleasant and actually quite light. Marzipan is dominant but it’s not overpowering.
Praline Minis
Praline in an assortment of four flavours: blueberry cheesecake, toffee, tiramisu, and chocolate cupcake.
If you’re not particularly fond of marzipan, I think you’ll love this selection of praline minis from Niederegger. It’s not immediately obvious looking at the box of pralines which flavour is which as there is no indication on the chocolate itself without taking a bite.
All of the pralines have a velvety softness which I found really delicious.
Are you a marzipan fan?
Until next time x
