Sourdough Breads and Cakes from The Polish Bakery

Hey Sweeties,

As a blogger you (sometimes) get the opportunity to try a whole load of different things and recently I was delighted to be contacted by The Polish Bakery* and asked if I wanted to give some of their award winning sourdough breads and cakes a try… well of course I said yes!

The Polish Bakery was founded in 2003 and are the oldest Polish bakery in the UK. Tradition is rooted at the heart and they use only the best quality products and highest standard of production to deliver, every day, the best tasting traditional Polish sourdough bread into British hands.

What is Sourdough?

This to some sounds like a silly question but if you asked me what the difference was between sourdough breads and cakes to normal breads and cakes I would struggle to answer to be honest. My initial thought process would revolve around the ingredients before wondering about the making/baking process and if this is also you, we wouldn’t be too far wrong.

Sourdough is basically bread made from the natural occurring yeast and bacteria in flour. There is no yeast, milk, oils or sweeteners, just flour, water, and salt. If you want a better, fuller explanation I will need to point you in the direction of my friend, Google… but the other key thing I guess to know is that sourdough is a fundamentally better, healthier bread.

The Polish Bakery claim that their sourdough bread gains an increasing number of British supporters, who once having tried their bread, discover the amazing taste, smell and texture and ultimately keep coming back for more.

In my delivery of sourdough breads and cakes from The Polish Bakery, I was given three different breads to try, and a large chess cheesecake. The sourdough breads were: Rye 100% bread (yeast free); Dark rye bread with Inulin (also contains grape seed flour); and chia seed bread, which of the three was probably my favourite.

The chess cheesecake was dense and delicious and would easily be a family favourite.
